LEISURE MOUNTAIN

Out On the Weekend: The Taking of Leisure Mountain was a sculptural installation, performance and live radio broadcast. The work was a collaboration between SIMPARCH, Academy Records and Chris Vorhees, and was commissioned for the 2007 Depauw Biennial in Greencastle, IN. Students at Depauw participated in the performance on April 21 and it was broadcast on WGRE, the campus radio station. The structure stood for several months. Leisure Mountain reflected cycles of consumption, season and landscape, and the performance examined leisure time, labor movements and pioneering spirit. The sculpture's final form: the collection of lawn chairs was taken to a recycling plant and crushed into a cube and bound, an re-exhibited in its new state at DePauw University where it became part of their permanent collection.
